When most people think of Salt & Light, they think about thrift (donations and sales) and our participants that earn store credit for volunteering with us. But it’s not only our credit-earning participants that depend on the resources and services available through our Urbana location. We partner with organizations across Champaign-Urbana to provide a wide range of services to our community members.
In the area of education, our partnerships include::
- Champaign County’s Cradle to Career
- Mother Goose on the Loose reading program
- DREEAM Academy
- Urbana Adult Ed and Project READ
- Several local school districts, Community Choices, and DSC – as a vocational site
- University of Illinois – as a placement and research site
In the area of health, our partnerships include:
- Carle – regular site for Mobile Health Clinic, recovery resources, and community health
- Rosecrance – community volunteering and connection
- Narcotics Anonymous – host site for the largest meeting in our local community
- Faith In Action – meeting health needs of senior citizens
- Service site for Lakeview College and Illinois Wesleyan’s nursing programs
In the area of government, our partnerships include:
- Cunningham Township’s Housing Assistance Program – as a work placement location
- Member of UPD’s Crisis Response Intervention Steering Team
- RPC Homeless Assistance – use of computer lab for clients needing to complete required dociments
- City of Urbana – collection site for community surveys
In addition to all the partnerships above, our Urbana location also:
- Support job seekers through Express Employment
- Serve as a collection site for Gies School of Business/IRS VITA program
- Collaborate with First Followers to assist returning citizens
- Offer space to Illinois Legal Aid as they provide free legal resources to our community members
