Shopping at Salt & Light doesn’t just provide for your family,
it helps someone in need provide for theirs.

Our grocery and thrift store are open to everyone in the community.

We are not a place for poor people – we are a place for everyone. In that, we find real community. We operate just like any other grocery store, accepting all forms of payment, and when you shop with us you’re not benefitting large corporations or shareholders; you’re benefitting the community.

100%

The proceeds from the grocery and thrift store support the programs and services of Salt & Light. By shopping and donating items, you are helping guarantee the future of our ministries and those we serve.

A Grocery Store Unlike Any Other

Our grocery store operates like any other grocery store you’ve been to in that:

We buy our inventory from several different vendors providing an array of name brand and generic products you would find in any of the other places you’ve shopped!

Our prices are affected by the amount we pay for the products. Because we don’t have the buying power of a large chain, we pay more for what we get, so can’t offer the same prices as a large chain. What we can do is promise that what you buy from us helps support local families in need.

Our grocery store operates unlike any other grocery store you’ve been to in that:

We exist to benefit the whole community, not to return profits to owners or shareholders. This means we are committed to keeping prices as low as we possibly can while doing our best to take of our employees.

We care about every person who walks through our door, not as a customer, but as a friend and neighbor, so do our best to treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve.

In a time of self-checkouts and robots cleaning the floors we refuse to replace people with things because without meaningful relationships we all miss out on experiencing real community.

A Thrift Store Stocked With Dignity

Our thrift store is different than any other you’ve been to in that:

The focus of almost every thrift store is first and foremost about generating revenue to support the actual work of the organization that runs it. For us, that is secondary to providing access to basic resources for people struggling to meet their needs—this IS our work. Because of this, in addition to the credit-earning opportunities we provide for people to meet their needs, we try and keep prices as low as possible on basic needs like clothing, shoes, and other household items while maximizing the return on collectibles, antiques, and high value items that would otherwise be purchased and flipped for a profit..

We rely on volunteers to help make everything happen; from receiving and processing items and stocking shelves and racks, to staffing the dressing rooms, jewelry counter and bagging at the checkout. We do our best to create space and opportunity for every person to contribute meaningfully regardless of capacity.
